Our Story

A Hidden Gem

Nestled near the end of the picturesque half-mile stretch of Dover Farm Road, Wellington Reserve offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by pastoral beauty. Scenic Dover Farm Road takes you past emerald pastures, whispering trees, and horses grazing beneath wide Carolina skies. Along the way, you’ll find two working horse farms—including the renowned MacNair’s Country Acres Equestrian Center—as well as the Interfaith Food Shuttle Farm and Farm Stand. Echoes of Doverdale Dairy still linger here, adding a touch of heritage to the landscape’s quiet grace.

The Land

Long before it would be known as Wellington Reserve, this beautiful parcel of gently rolling land was part of Doverdale Dairy Farm. Corn and small grains once blanketed the terrain, grown to nourish the farm’s thriving herd. The adjoining pond provided irrigation for the crops.

Today, the land’s pastoral past still echoes in its gentle contours and natural beauty—an enduring tribute to its agricultural heritage.

The History

Doverdale Dairy Farm & Dover Farm Road
In 1947, H. Frank Dover purchased a 157-acre farm along a narrow dirt road in Raleigh. There, he and his wife, Christine, built the home where they would raise 3 sons. In 1954, the Dovers started Doverdale Dairy with just 20 cows—a modest beginning that blossomed into a thriving 200-cow operation. The Dovers not only cared for their herd but also cultivated the crops needed to sustain it.

After the dairy closed in 1977, the Dovers continued to farm the land. Today, fescue and orchard hay are grown on some of the remaining acres of the original farm.

The road to the farm was eventually paved by NCDOT and officially named Dover Farm Road after the Dover’s farm.
